Forget about Edward and Bella and their G-rated antics in Twilight, it's time for some real nocturnal action with vampire Bill Compton and telepath Sookie Stackhouse in the American deep-south supernatural saga, True Blood. If you like your vampires with bite you'll find the new series True Blood on Showcase juicy and cooked to your liking - rare.
Adapted from the Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris and brought to the small screen by Six Feet Under creator Alan Ball, just one episode of True Blood will have you hooked and you'll see why Anna Paquin deservingly won a Golden Globe for her portrayal of Sookie Stackhouse.
The series is set in the small southern town of Bon Temps, Louisiana where Sookie lives with what she calls her disability but most would call telepathic powers. Though Sookie tries to block out the thoughts of others every now and then a stray thought slips through and she is privy to information she would rather not know - like her boyfriend thinks her arse is too big. Nice. So Sookie steers clear of dating and keeps to herself waiting tables at Merlotte's Bar and living quietly at her grandmother's house. But all this changes when luscious vampire Bill, who with the rest of his kind have recently come out of the coffin thanks to newly created synthetic blood, rolls into town. Sookie soon finds out vamps really knows how to treat a southern lady.
I would tell you to watch out for former Home and Away star Ryan Kwanten as Sookie's brother Jason but I doubt you'll miss him. Jason loves the ladies and has trouble keeping his clothes on so Ryan is pretty much naked for the majority of the series. Enjoy!
