High Societe in Hardware Street

Melbourne’s famous lane-way scene has delivered another gem in the form of The Hardware Société, a hole-in-the wall eatery at the more edgy end of the Hardware Lane precinct.

Unlike the “modern European’ clones lining Hardware Lane a short distance south, this restaurant/kitchen offers innovative, fresh and affordable food at a very high standard. French with a kick of African and Mediterranean, The Hardware Société is what Melbourne luncheries should be: fast, delicious and innovative.

We sampled the Confit Duck and fish of the day – both beautifully prepared and cooked to perfection. And at around $14 for a main (lunch) The Harware Société is also great value. They do brisk breakfast trade and are open Saturday mornings for brunch.

Love this place. A lunch visit simply must end with a purchase of one of the perfect macarons to take back to the office for dessert!
