New from the French airwaves…

As the days get shorter and the nights get longer, Summer's is indeed almost over - but that doesn't mean we can't still fall in love with a new summery tune.

From the 2010 edition of the So Frenchy So Chic series, we present you an emerging French singer/songwriter who goes simply by the name of "M"... and his wonderful animated video that's far from simple.

M - "Le Roi Des Ombres"

Fever Las Vegas!

Fever Las Vegas!

I have two Drinks! to get your fantastically legless this week however, I must first stop to brag; I'm going to Las Vegas! Woo and indeed hoo. Yes, I'm jealous of myself too but honestly, it's been forever since I've been overseas. I plan to make the most of it by also visiting New York. It won't be all play though, oh no, I promise to canvas bartenders and frequent cocktail hot spots all in the name of research for my next Drink! post. That way we all win.

Having never been Vegas I though it best to have options for keeping it nice but also allowing for seedier times. The bright lights and the back alleys as it were. So here's to having a sweet and pretty time in the desert paradise but to also getting down, getting a little bit grubby and perhaps a whole lot dirty.

A new local guide has just come to our attention, right in time for the warm months ahead. Produced by Melbourne bicycle rental company The Humble Vintage, Melbourne for Visitors and Casual Cyclists is full of local knowledge, written for both visitors and local bike riders alike. On the back of one of the cutest maps of Melbourne we've come across, the Summer 2010 issue features themed riding routes, bar, retail and cafe reviews, opinion pieces and a what's on. One read of the pool to pier riding route and you'll be glad you own a bike, or of course wish that you did. If that's the case, the Humble Vintage also has a range of spruced up, eye-turning vintage rides for hire, yours for the day, weekend, or week. Distributed to bike hirers and a selection of cafes around town, the guide is free and available now. Email hire@thehumblevintage.com to get a copy or find out more.

The uniform project

The uniform project

How often do we ladies spend an absolute fortune on a dress that we can only wear once? The answer is too often. To try to teach us about sustainable fashion, blogger Sheena Matheiken, has pledged to wear one dress for one year. Here’s how it works: There are 7 identical dresses, one for each day of the week. “Every day I will reinvent the dress with layers, accessories and all kinds of accouterments, the majority of which will be vintage, hand-made, or hand-me-down goodies. Think of it as wearing a daily uniform with enough creative license to make it look like I just crawled out of the Marquis de Sade's boudoir” Says Matheiken. The Uniform project is a year long fundraiser for the Akanksha Foundation, based in India. The foundation is dedicated to the education, uniforms and educational expenses of  children who live in the Indian slums. So far the project had raised $44,000 and put 122 kids in school! To donate to the cause go to http://www.theuniformproject.com/home/donate.html

Polo ponies

Fashion’s finest came out to play on Saturday at the Albert Park Lakeside Polo. Champaign was flowing and the guests and players mingled. Fashion on the field was sponsored by non other than Ed Hardy who so generously gave away a handsome sum of moolah to go shopping with. When the sun came out the game got serious! A Ferrari came zipping past, dropped the ball and the horses were off! Galloping back and forth, the crowd could not take their eye off the horses. The after party kicked off at Riva and lasted well into the night. Ooh I do love a bit of old school polo!

Strutting stilettos

In where else but Paris would we find 100 crazed women competing for the Stiletto championship race! Sarenza.com are the founders and sponsors for this crazy event. The lucky winner receives 3,000 Euros worth of shoes! But I’m assuming that after a race like that all you would want to buy is slippers! The race is broken into three 180-meter relays and the ladies must wear at least three-inch heels. There are 32 teams in the running and a medical support team is always at the ready! The 2008 winners, team "Talk To My Foot (Parle A Mon Pied)" will be competing again this year, a trio comprised of a TV journalist, a psychologist and a lawyer. See, its not just for dumb bimbos smart women get a kick out of it too!

The roof top cinema is now in session.

Its that time of year again! The roof top cinema 09/10 is now in session. There is nothing better than on warm night sitting amongst the sky scrapers in deck chairs! Rooftop Cinema has always been about showing great movies in a cinematic setting because films are affected by the environment in which they’re shown. So, while their program will host current releases, this season will continue to present the best classic and cult films with the knowledge that they will always reveal something new. It is a great idea for beer o’clock, after work, or even a date, something a little different! To find session times head to tp://www.rooftopcinema.com.au/program

Britain houses fugly people

Britain houses fugly people

According to the website beautifulpeople.com the British are among the ugliest people in the world. Only one in eight men and three in 20 women have been accepted into the elite-dating site. The site allows members to rate other members of the opposite sex based on a photo. They have a period of 48 hours for a thumbs up or thumbs down rating. The site's statistics states that Swedish men have proven to be the most successful as have the Norwegian women. According to news.com.au Beautiful People managing director Greg Hodge said "I would say Britain is stumbling because they don't spend as much time polishing up their appearance and they are letting themselves down on physical fitness. Next to Brazilian and Scandinavian beauties, British people just aren't as toned or glamorous." Russian women have a 44 per cent acceptance rate and their men have a bah baow (meaning zero) acceptance. I find this whole story hilarious considering the two people in the photo are hardly models! Ah well I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder!
