New from the French airwaves…

The uniform project

The uniform project

How often do we ladies spend an absolute fortune on a dress that we can only wear once? The answer is too often. To try to teach us about sustainable fashion, blogger Sheena Matheiken, has pledged to wear one dress for one year. Here’s how it works: There are 7 identical dresses, one for each day of the week. “Every day I will reinvent the dress with layers, accessories and all kinds of accouterments, the majority of which will be vintage, hand-made, or hand-me-down goodies. Think of it as wearing a daily uniform with enough creative license to make it look like I just crawled out of the Marquis de Sade's boudoir” Says Matheiken. The Uniform project is a year long fundraiser for the Akanksha Foundation, based in India. The foundation is dedicated to the education, uniforms and educational expenses of  children who live in the Indian slums. So far the project had raised $44,000 and put 122 kids in school! To donate to the cause go to http://www.theuniformproject.com/home/donate.html

Polo ponies

Fashion’s finest came out to play on Saturday at the Albert Park Lakeside Polo. Champaign was flowing and the guests and players mingled. Fashion on the field was sponsored by non other than Ed Hardy who so generously gave away a handsome sum of moolah to go shopping with. When the sun came out the game got serious! A Ferrari came zipping past, dropped the ball and the horses were off! Galloping back and forth, the crowd could not take their eye off the horses. The after party kicked off at Riva and lasted well into the night. Ooh I do love a bit of old school polo!

Burkah Barbie

Barbie has been spoilt for her 50th anniversary. Not only did she get a makeover from Christian Louboutin but now a cultural one. Italian designer Eliana Lorena designed Burkah Barbie, so that girls all over the world could play with something that represented them. The traditional Islamic dressed doll will be auctioned off at a charity event in connection with the Sotheby’s for Save the Children.
