Muppets… Manamana.. do dooo dododo

Whether we hear ‘manamana too do to do to’ or ‘it’s time to play the music, it’s time to light the lights’ or even ‘one two three four five six seven eight nine ten eleven tweeeeeeelevve’ most of us, no matter what our age will think of those lovably weird and wonderful creatures the Muppets.  From Sesame Street to the Muppet Show to Kermit and Miss Piggy’s adventures in any of the surreal Muppet movies, those adorable fuzzy personalities have been there our entire lives.

In Perfect Worlds Dolls Make Decisions Too

I saw a fantastic, inspiring, confronting and thoughtful photography exhibition by Jess Robertson recently at Meeja Gallery in Melbourne’s South Yarra.  Jess’s work in this exhibition is created through the use of dioramas.  Jess imagines and realises miniature scenes inside one meter square boxes which she then photographs and presents as large scale canvas prints.  Stylistically Jess’s work is like film stills, although in miniature and using dolls to recreate emotionally intriguing scenarios that push your mind to create the story behind the image.

Jess graduated as an Arts Photographer from RMIT in 1999 and has since kept busy on film projects and in commercial and art photography.  You can read more about Jess and see her work here.

After seeing Jess’s exhibition I did a bit of research on Dioramas as they looked so fun to create....
