Beetroot

Beetroot Lunchroom and Espresso Bar is my latest find the city. Set up by Husband and wife team, Di and William Keser, Beetroot is very cute and importantly has very, very yummy food. They also have a $3 glass of wine special with lunches priced at over $10 (they are mostly around this price). If you are like me and like cooking as much as you like eating - you can use your lunch hour to study the recipes so helpfully pinned to the walls. Beetroot is located at 123 Hardware Street Melbourne. Check out their website here  or ill see you there!

This is why you are fat

This is why you are fat

Its very easy to sneak that chocolate biscuit from the cupboard, or eat the majority of the left over ice cream cake from the weekend. I do it... regularly. But now, you can feel better about your poor eating habits by looking at all the junk the rest of the world are eating. thisiswhyyourefat.com is the go to website, whether its the picture of the 'Porkasm' the 'Quadruple Bypass Burger' or 'The Bacon Explosion' - a measly chocolate biscuit now seems as good for you as a celery stick!

This is why you are fat is well worth a visit!

New York Tomato

New York Tomato

I am always on the lookout for somewhere good for weekend brunching and the New York Tomato, hidden away in the backstreets of Richmond is a good find.

The menu boasts a moorish selection of dishes including my favourite to date, Napoli eggs. They also have a great selection of specials - last weekend I had poached eggs with beetroot, capers, Spanish onion, rocket and fetta cheese served atop a piece of grilled buttery sourdough. And for those prone to weekend hangovers and in need of a fix, they also make a mean Bloody Mary, good enough to scare off any hangover.

Turning Japanese

Turning Japanese

Calling all Japanophiles, Melbourne's latest bar offering Nihonshu is fabulous. The little sister to renowned restaurant Izakaya Chuji, Nihonshu won't disappoint. Set up in the adjoining building, Nihonshu offers an impressive range of Japanese drinks including shochu (Japanese vodka) which is distilled using ingredients such as tomato, basil and sweet potato. The bar boasts 34 types of saki, a good selection of Japanese beer, dangerously sweet plum wine and a supersonic Japanese hand dryer in the bathroom.

Rue Babylon rantings

Rue Babylon rantings

City lunch hunting can be a traumatic experience. Simply navigating through the swarms of people in search of food can require an almost saint like patience (of which I have none) and an agile people/random obstacle dodging ability (also lacking). On arrival even the sourcing of food can also prove a trying experience. From the endless supply of dodgy focaccia's, to the over priced, the sold out dish you desperately wanted, to the worst of all - no tables. Not to say there isn't anywhere good to go - there are plenty. It's just a matter of finding them.
