Aussie Mozzie

Aussie Mozzie

It's a simple one this week. Inspired by the incessant buzzing and droning the bay side suburbs from Port Melbourne to St Kilda endure during the Melbourne Grand Prix, I give you - The Aussie Mozzie. Down a few dozen of these the night before and I (almost) guarantee you will sleep through those early morning practice laps. And whilst the recipe might seem to hark back to early drinking experiences, mixing anything together from your parent's liquor cabinet, it is actually quite refreshing.

Jungle food in the city

Located in Melbourne's Centre Place, Jungle Juice is a definite standout and arguably one of Melbourne's smallest cafes. With menus pasted on the inner covers of Golden Books stepping inside could almost make you feel like Alice in Wonderland. Jungle Juice focuses their food around fresh bagels and soups. You can get breakfast bagels including a Mc Bagel or for lunch try their legendary club sandwich

Compare trends via Wikirank

If you've ever wanted to compare Wikipedia searches (sheesh - who hasn't) then Wikirank is your kind of tool. The example above shows TV flatlining while Twitter goes gang busters. You can compare Apples to Oranges, Cats to Dogs or... whatever - comment your best comparisons.

Button up baby

I love people with obsessions, it makes me feel like mine are more normal. One of my recently rediscovered obsessions is of the sewing variety, which happily marries with my longest running life obsession - textiles. Now that I am back on board (and behind the sewing machine) I am always on the look out for places to find unique fabrics, patterns and buttons.

Modern History

I was driving to a friends place on the weekend and stumbled across a great new store Modern History. The place is a treasure trove of great quality pieces dating from the 50's through to the 70's.

This is the first Melbourne venture for owners Charles and Paul who have been in the mid century game for around 10 years. Their focus primarily is on Melbourne made mid-century furniture by designers such as Zoureff, Rosando, Krimper, Featherston, Module, TH Brown, Danish Deluxe and alike. The guys are also really into English mid-century furniture and design and source extensively throughout the UK. I had my heart broken by a few really special pieces.

Write or Die…

I think that we have all been prone to procrastination at some (or many) stages. Working in communications can leave you particularly prone to procrastination of the writing variety - a dangerous occupational hazard. A friend recently pointed me in the direction of Dr Wicked, and the application Write or Die...
